Momo is shortlisted for re-imagining the new release by spoken-word, electronic creatives, Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip, and nicks some pictures from their website – MAY 2010

Now first up, of course, Momo can't claim any kudos by association here – we're about as street as a fly-tipped mattress.

This isn't an offical release, but Dan and Pip have chosen the Momo:tempo remix of Great Britain as one of only a handful out of a hundred entries to be short-listed for a public vote.

When splendid purveyors of cerebral British electro-hip-hop, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, opened the doors of their new single to the great unwashed of production to let them have a good old go at their new single, Momo couldn't resist the invitation.

Amid prep for Momo's own single release in mid June,  Sweetseeker – along with the soon-to-be-revealed very cool Harry Disco mix – this was just too fun an opportunity to miss. The original track is a heart-felt intelligent stuff, like so much of Le Sac and Scroob's work – from the quietly iconic Thou shalt always kill to the street wisdom of Get Better. Great Britain is kind of quirky, and emotionally poised between drama and reflection. Momo's solution – obviously – was to chuck everything at it.

Speaking in third person, as he always does on his own news pages, Momo:tempo producer, Timo Peach, said: "We've added some four extra ideas to the mix, including a string arrangement – which our resident strings supremo Pete Whitfield was great at getting back to us perfectly in time for Dan and Pip's competition deadline. The end result is kind of cinematic, but I really hope it doesn't tip the emotion into meaningless drama, the narrative of the tune is too sobering. It worked fine without me mucking about with it. But still."

Dan and Pip have been touring the UK and beyond this year, promoting their new album, Logic of chance, and new double-A-side single, Sick Tonight / Great Britain. Announcing their favourite six mixes from the 100 that were submitted, the boys have posted all the finalists for people to vote on, and choose one to be released officially with the single.

Momo will remain impartial in his advice on which to choose.

"Go with your heart," he says sagely. "Pick the one that makes you say 'oh' the most."

You can follow the remix details and vote for your favourite at the lesacvspip.co.uk website.
